Over 50 charities and organisations have written to the Prime Minister calling on the Government to urgently reform disabled children’s social care. Will you back their call?
Over 1.8 million disabled children and young people live in the UK. Too many are being let down by a social care system that is confusing, inconsistent and too often absent when families need it most.
Families tell us they are having to reach crisis point before help is even considered. Others are afraid to ask for support at all.
It doesn’t have to be this way.
The Law Commission has set out recommendations that could transform disabled children’s social care, replacing an outdated and fragmented system with one that is simpler, fairer and centred around children and families.
But the Government has delayed publishing its plans for taking those recommendations forward.
Disabled children and their families cannot afford to wait.
That’s why over 50 charities and organisations have come together to write an open letter to the Prime Minister, urging the Government to:
- implement the Law Commission’s recommendations and bring disabled children’s social care into the 21st century
- work alongside disabled children and families to design a simpler, fairer system
- publish a clear timetable for change
- meet disabled children and their families and hear directly about their experiences.
